They worked diligently to recruit a leadership team that reflected their vision.

Our executive team is organized around the core tenets that we believe drive better outcomes: deep partner integration through local market leadership, quality, and efficiency improved care through data analytics and insights, organic growth and engagement, addressing gaps in care, and technology that allows transformation.
At the helm of that management team is Steve Sell, a seasoned executive who spent over twenty years defining organizational culture, partnership strategies, operational processes, and investments for a pioneering health plan. Drawing from the management models he implemented at Health Net, Steve brings a deep commitment to physician partnership and the expertise to rapidly expand agilon health partnerships across the country.
He is joined on the executive team by Chief Medical Officer, Ben Kornitzer, MD. Dr. Kornitzer was inspired to join agilon health by the uniqueness of our model and our deep engagement with physicians to improve quality, efficiency, and patient experience. Something that many other systems lack. Dr. Kornitzer brings with him significant experience engaging with independent physician practices from his time leading network partnerships for a large health system in New York.
Our enterprise operations are led by Veeral Desai, who guides strategies for addressing gaps in care and new market implementations as well as our Western region. His background in value-based specialty medicine, through partnership and distributed operations management, is uniquely suited to the demands of our partnership model and platform.
It’s a platform that enables transformation of the delivery system through innovation and outcome-focused management, which makes the experience like Lisa Dombro’s so valuable. With years building organic growth, designing specialty physician networks, and developing partnerships and clinical management processes, Lisa Dombro is ideally equipped to lead agilon’s innovation and growth efforts.
Connecting and enabling all aspects of our innovative platform is our purpose-built MSO, proprietary technology, and robust data analytics. Joan Danieley, our MSO President, uses her significant operational and lean operations expertise to lead our delegated services, which are uniquely embedded into our network and partnership strategies. While IT leader, and delegated services model pioneer, Bill Farry is instrumental in creating partner connectivity that supports best in class performance in care, quality, engagement and contracting.
Chris Casler, Chief Human Resources Officer, ensures our six core values of partnership, quality, accountability and integrity, expertise, service excellence, and continuous improvement show up in everything we do. Across all teams in the company.
The agilon health corporate leadership team is rounded out by the financial management talent of Ted Halkias and Kenny Bellendir as well as the legal and compliance teams led by Lyn Amor-Macaraeg and Sunmi Janicek, respectively.
At the core of our joint operating model, are the dedicated team of local market executives who are critical to our success. Seasoned executives who bring strategic and operational expertise coupled with local physician leadership collectively deliver on the goal of transforming the delivery system.
The ability to tailor capabilities to fit individual markets is critical to the expansion of agilon heath’s partnership model. Nowhere is this capability more critical than when serving a state’s Medicaid population. That’s why local market executives, like John Wallace, are so invaluable. His extensive experience with Medi-Cal has helped lead our successful expansion into the California market.
Like our partnership model, the way our executive leadership team works is unique. Each member of the team has expertise in their own area of the company, but they also have first-hand knowledge of the other areas of the platform that rely on them. As a result, the team is acutely dedicated to operational excellence, collaboration, and innovation — all of which drive care transformation forward.
Chief Executive Officer
Steve Sell is an experienced, mission-based CEO known for transforming organizations through partnerships, product innovations and talented, collaborative teams. He has designed, built, and run multiple high-growth organizations that navigated and capitalized on periods of tremendous environmental change. Most recently he served as the President, CEO and Chairman of Health Net (Centene’s largest subsidiary) from 2016-2019 where he was responsible for the strategy, execution and financial performance of a $14B business with 7,300 employees and 3 million members in Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial. As CEO and Chairman, he re-tooled the company’s multi-line strategy, rebuilt the entire senior team, expanded key provider partnerships and migrated core system platforms while exceeding the company’s financial plan by 10+% annually. In all, Steve spent 22 years with Health Net, its subsidiaries and predecessor companies. Steve serves as an advisor to multiple health start-up companies and volunteers in the education world by serving on several local and national boards.
Senior Vice President, Finance
Kenny brings extensive healthcare and financial experience to agilon health. He comes to us from US Anesthesia Partners (USAP), where he spent nearly four years, most recently serving as Corporate Vice President, Finance. As one of the first employees at USAP, Kenny was instrumental in growing the business from a single practice into a national platform. Prior to USAP, he spent several years as an investor and investment banker focused primarily on the healthcare sector. Kenny holds a B.S. degree, summa cum laude, from New York University and earned his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Chief Human Resources Officer
Prior to joining our team, Chris served as Chief People Officer at New Century Health. He brings over 20 years of human resources management experience across multiple industries, with a record of scaling global business and cost-effective business processes. Chris has held several leadership positions where he was responsible for organization design, change management and talent acquisition.
Joan’s twenty years of experience in operations is both deep and broad, encompassing all lines of business as well as turnaround, mature and startup organizations. She has held leadership roles in large health plans including Kaiser Permanente-Hawaii and Molina Healthcare. Joan has also been a key leader in the policy arena serving through appointments to committees tasked with transforming health care, generating innovation, and improving quality outcomes. Joan has a Juris Doctor and Master of Health Care Administration from Tulane University.
President, Enterprise Operations
Prior to joining agilon health, Veeral served in several senior executive roles at Vantage Oncology, a national leader in community oncology and value-based cancer care. As President of Operations, Veeral was responsible for the organization’s field operations and led key functions including managed care, marketing, and strategy. He helped incubate and served as Chief Operating Officer of the Vantage Cancer Care Network, an innovative model for managing cancer populations. Veeral has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley.
Senior Vice President, Innovation & Growth
Prior to joining agilon health, Lisa was Chief of Staff for the CEO of Fresenius Medical Care North America as well as Senior Vice President of Physician Practice Services. She led the development of new services and business models which fueled the organization’s move to value-based care. Before joining FMCNA, she provided strategic consulting services to hospitals, physician practices and other health-care service organizations, including Surgical Care Affiliates, a leader in the ambulatory surgery center space, as they pursued national growth and physician collaboration opportunities.
Chief of Technology Innovation
Bill brings almost 30 years of health care IT experience in the vendor, Health Plan, hospital and delegated provider markets to agilon health. He joined us from Monarch Health Care / Optum, where he served as CIO, led technical product development and shaped strategic product direction for Optum’s Care Delivery business segment. In addition, he led efforts supporting the business design and enterprise technical platform for new market growth.
Chief Financial Officer
Ted brings over two decades of financial expertise to agilon health. He previously served as CFO of Landmark Health, a physician organization serving chronically-ill patients in several markets throughout the country, and as CFO of HealthCare Partners, a large provider group organization operating in multiple markets. In each organization, he oversaw all aspects of finance, accounting, health care analytics, revenue cycle and related functions. Ted is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
Chief Compliance Officer
Sunmi brings more than 16 years of extensive experience in managed care compliance and operational management of provider networks, financial program initiatives, clinical programs, and delegation oversight/monitoring. Prior to joining us, Sun was the Vice President of Compliance Solutions at Gorman Health Group. In this role, she assisted various health plans in the development and implementation of compliance program initiatives for Medicare and Medicaid populations and to build operational strategies to optimize its underlying processes to achieve more efficient results. She has held multiple executive roles at Medicaid and Medicare plans, like CalOptima, WellCare, and United, where she was responsible for the organization’s compliance programs and oversight of accreditation activities.
Benjamin Kornitzer, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Kornitzer joins agilon health with broad clinical and operational experience leading a diverse range of medical enterprises, including community-based practices, ACOs, IPAs, and integrated ambulatory networks. He served as Chief Medical Officer of the Mount Sinai Health Network for six years, where Dr. Kornitzer oversaw one of the premier academic delivery networks in the country as the system developed robust population health tools, quality programs, care coordination resources, and invested in practice transformation. Earlier in his career, Dr. Kornitzer had operational and strategic positions at leading community-based healthcare organizations focused on quality and value, including Balance ACO and House Calls Medical Group. In addition to his clinical and operational roles, Dr. Kornitzer previously served as a strategic consultant with McKinsey & Company, where he worked with U.S and foreign governments, hospital systems, and pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Kornitzer earned his medical degree with AOA honors from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his residency at Harvard Medical School/ Massachusetts General Hospital.
Lyn Amor Macaraeg
Vice President, Legal Services
Lyn brings 15 years of experience providing legal counsel to healthcare companies, both as in-house counsel, as well as in private practice. Prior to agilon health, Lyn served as Deputy General Counsel for Alignment Healthcare, and prior to that, CareMore Health Systems, where Lyn oversaw the day to day legal matters for the company, and partnered with, and advised company leadership to advance business operations. She led the development of legal department processes and operations to increase effectiveness and efficiency and has extensive experience in managed care and value-based contracting, complex business transactions and contract negotiations, corporate governance, intellectual property, compliance and regulatory matters, privacy, employment and labor, and litigation management. Before serving as in-house counsel, Lyn practiced health law at Epstein, Becker & Green, and K&R Law Group. Lyn earned her JD from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, a Master’s in Public Health from Saint Louis University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Francisco.
The local operating structure for each agilon health market reflects a dyad of business and clinical leadership. By partnering a market president with a market medical director, we ensure all decisions reflect a balance of medical and business expertise.
Market President, Central Region
Prior to agilon health, Ben served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Mount Carmel Health Partners, a clinically integrated network of over 1,800 providers responsible for more than 190,000 covered lives across 10 value-based contracts. His education includes a B.A. in Economics from Youngstown State University and a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from The Ohio State University.
Mary Cook, MD
Medical Director, Ohio
Mary joined the Central Ohio Primary Care Physicians (COPC) as an Inpatient Physician in 2003. She has served as COPC Inpatient Operations Council, Dublin Methodist Hospital Inpatient Medical Director and Associate Medical Director with COPC Hospitalists. Mary went to the University of Wyoming and Creighton University School of Medicine to complete her medical degree and trained in Internal Medicine at Creighton’s Internal Medicine Residency program. She is certified in Internal Medicine with the ABIM.
Market President, Texas
Prior to agilon health, Patti, a 35-year veteran of ARC, served as VP of Population Health & Clinical Quality Programs at ARC since 2011. Before 2011, she managed various departments and strategic partnerships, including the ARC Marketing & Communications Department, MediView Operations (a third party administrator for ARC’s parent company, Covenant Management Systems), ARC retail clinics and onsite clinic services, the ARC Physical Therapy Department, and the Medicare Advantage Program.
Kevin Spencer, MD
Medical Director, Texas
Dr. Spencer is a practicing family medicine physician, having attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and completed residency at the Carolinas Medical Center in North Carolina. Dr. Spencer was the CEO of Premier Physicians, and now serves as Chairman of the Board for Premier Physicians. He also is the Founder and President of Southwest Provider Accountable Care Organization (ACO).
With deep local market understanding, combined with extensive health care experience, Patti Parker and Kevin Spencer, MD oversee the strategy, operations and growth for the Connected Senior Care Advantage program, the unique agilon health partnership model.
Market President, Hawaii
Scott blends expertise from finance and operations roles in the hospital, biotech, investment, and healthcare consulting industries. He most recently served as the Director of Finance for the Queen’s Medical Center Punchbowl Campus. As the finance leader for the only Level 1 trauma center for the State of Hawaii, he was responsible for improving the profitability of the hospital and the Queen’s Health System, partnering with physicians to build a patient-centered and quality-focused Heart & Vascular Institute and negotiating Queen’s first bundled payment program. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Genetics from Dartmouth College. Scott, whose wife is originally from Hawaii, moved to Hawaii several years ago to bring up his children surrounded by their local ohana and has a deep commitment to improving health care in Hawaii.
Amy Rhine, MD
Medical Director, Hawaii
Amy Rhine, MD, joined MDX Hawai‘i as a medical director in 2017 after spending several years as a hospitalist in New Mexico and Illinois. Dr. Rhine attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign for her medical degree before completing her training at Carle Foundation Hospital Family Medicine Residency program in Urbana, Illinois. Double board-certified in the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians and the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Rhine is in charge of population health management and assures delivery of high-quality patient care.

Market President, California
John’s experience in healthcare has focused on public programs and safety-net provider networks. John began his health career at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services which operates the second largest public hospital and health system in the country working on the nation’s only sub-state 1115 Waiver, Public-Private Partnership Program, and other major initiatives. John spent a decade at L.A. Care Health Plan, the largest public health plan in the country. While at L.A. Care, John served as Chief Operating Officer and oversaw the implementation of a Medicare Advantage Duals Special Needs Plan, an individual commercial product for Covered California and the expansion of Medi-Cal under the Affordable Care Act. At Heritage Provider Network, John served as Senior Vice President for Medicaid programs. John is a California native and a graduate of the University of Southern California.
Manoj Mathew, MD
National Medical Director
An experienced healthcare executive, Manoj brings decades of clinical and administrative experience to agilon health. He previously worked as a Regional Medical Director at DaVita HealthCare Partners, responsible for Group and IPA operations of 87,000 patients in the San Fernando Valley while also accountable for Acute and Post-Acute Care services for 240,000 patients in the LA North Region under full-risk managed care arrangements. An Internist boarded in Hospice and Palliative Care, Manoj began his career as a PCP and then as a Hospitalist and SNFist. He was awarded the distinction of Senior Fellow in Hospital Medicine (SFHM) from the Society of Hospital Medicine for his work in improving the quality of patient care.
