FirstChoice Medical Group Goes All Out for Physician Education
FirstChoice Medical Saving Physicians Minutes, Hassles Via Quality Documentation University
While not the reason physicians decided to attend medical school, coding is a reality of today’s medical arena, and if done incorrectly, it will affect physicians’ reimbursement and ultimately, quality of life.
Thus, in an effort to make coding more familiar and stress-free, FirstChoice Medical Group, an agilon health platform company, hosted over 120 providers and office staff for their inaugural ‘Quality Documentation University’ in order to educate physicians regarding appropriate CMS clinical documentation for quality, coding, and compliance.
On the podium were three nationally-recognized experts: Dr. Rae Godsey, DO, MBA, CPC, Associate Vice President/Corporate Medical Director, Risk Adjustment & Stars at Humana; Dior Cotton, PMP, Strategic Consultant, Stars and Quality at Humana; and Ryan Dodson, CRC, VP, Principal, Risk Adjustment at New Vision Healthcare Solutions.
When surveyed after the event, participants indicated an overwhelmingly positive response from the participants. Physicians stated that they left the event with an increased awareness of acceptable documentation standards, much of which differs from long-established practices. Another key takeaway was the need to focus on addressing data gaps, which contribute to accurate RAF and HEDIS scores. The clinicians valued FirstChoice’s efforts to host such an event and were eager to attend a session earlier next year to optimize the ability to impact the 2020 measurement year.
