MDX Hawaiʻi staff and management were thrilled to present a check for $5,000 to Our Kūpuna on April 30, 2021.

Our Kūpuna is a Hawai‘i-based non-profit organization started in early 2020 in response to the global pandemic and its impact on Hawai‘i’s senior population. In the face of this adversity, the group envisioned a Hawaiʻi where all kūpuna (elders) have food securityaccess to their basic essentials, and are kākoʻo (supported) by nui kaiāulu (the greater community).

Their mission is to connect our kūpuna in need with sponsors – those in the community who are free of COVID-19 symptoms, follow current Hawaiʻi mandates regarding coronavirus safety, and are willing to pick up and deliver groceries, medication, and necessary supplies to kūpuna sheltered at home.

To date, Our Kūpuna has helped nearly 450 individuals, and they continue to create new programs to provide socialization opportunities for kūpuna living in isolation.

Through the generous donations from MDX Hawaiʻi staff and matching funds from the company, $5,000 was donated to the organization, helping support 125 individuals within the community.

“The support we have received through the philanthropic efforts of MDX Hawai‘i and their employees is just heart-warming,” exclaimed Gabe Amey, Executive Director of Our Kūpuna. “This generous gift enables us to further our mission to provide Hawaii’s elders with food security and access to their essentials.”
