Raising An Important Voice in Healthcare

Did you know that evidence suggests women primary care physicians (PCPs) perform better in value-based care?

According to prestigious academic journals like Lancet and JAMA, female physicians are more likely to adhere to clinical guidelines, provide preventive care more often, use more patient-centered communication, perform as well or better on standardized exams, and provide more psychosocial counseling to their patients than do their male peers.

Yet, women today are underrepresented and underpaid in our healthcare system. A reality that cannot nor should not remain.

We at agilon health and our physician partners are committed to changing that.

I’m proud to share that to celebrate Womens Physicians Day, we are officially launching The Female Physician Leadership Council, led by medical leaders who are an essential part of transforming the healthcare delivery system through value-based care. The Female Physician Leadership Council will develop female leadership within the agilon practice network and the next generation of women PCPs to deliver value-based care within their communities to help the most vulnerable of patients – our seniors.

Through the creation of this Council, female leadership within our broad physician partner network and the industry are being recognized, elevated and supported addressing the opportunities, gaps and challenges they currently face to strengthen healthcare. We are grateful to 13 women including our founding women physician members who are paving a path for the future of female PCPs.

Health equity must be viewed as the rule not the exception. The importance of women physicians in providing high-quality, value-based care and their impact on our healthcare system needs to be enhanced and improved. Let me state that all of us at agilon health and our physician partner practices are proud to establish this critical initiative that recognizes, supports and engages female PCPs in furthering their careers and having voice in their professional growth and economic success. We will also be creating a women physician resource group (PRG) to complement the Council, and facilitate conversation and empowerment of women physicians and allies throughout our network of more than 1,600 primary care physicians.

We look forward to embracing change in helping our nation’s best physicians cultivate a sustained and thriving future. Hear from our Council founders further outlining the purpose and importance of our initiative.

Steve
